Do you speak your truth?
Or, do you keep it to yourself? Even though you’re outraged at the dude in the meeting who just patted your arm, while he took credit for your killer idea? But if you call him on it, things could go very wrong:
- They’ll all think you’re a bee-atch.
- They’ll whisper about you in the hall, how you’re NOT a team player.
- They won’t promote you, you won’t get hired again (this industry is a bunch of small town gossips)
- You could lose everything, like that bag lady on the corner with the one wild roaming eye…
If you get stressed out about speaking up, you’re not alone.
If you have a uterus, you’ve been conditioned to keep quiet. Don’t rock the boat. Don’t poke the bear (especially if a hyper-masculine dude is calling the shots).
The Trouble with Truth is…
Your fear of being real is real. We all need to to get along, to survive. Back in the day, the norm in some cultures was to stifle the truth. Bury it.
So now, when a strong emotion comes up, your throat gets all tight. Clamped. Strangled, even.
Below that, it’s pressure. From holding it back, bolding it in. For years. And now it’s burning to get out.
Sometimes, you open your mouth and it all leaks out like a firehose. It’s a relief. But you’re not proud of whining, bitching, complaining…Is there a better way?
Sharing your truth ~ in a way that makes people sit up and really listen ~ is a rare skill.
When you say something like, “That didn’t feel good, when you interrupted my story,” we listen. We know you’re not one to be stepped on or looked over.
If only I’d known how to speak my truth as a teenager, when I didn’t want my date digging down my pants. When in my 20’s my boss told me he wasn’t promoting me because I was a woman. I’d have said, “That’s not right, and its not legal.
When you speak with authority, truth rings out. People take notice. As reseacher Brene Brown preaches, vulnerability is power.
Become a Jedi Master of Intuition
Trusting your gut and growing courage to act on it is a skill you probably didn’t learn in school. Because, logic. Can you prove it?
You rocked book learning, but didn’t know what your body was saying.
When you’re a Jedi, you listen to your gut and take action. Intuition whispers: “call your friend Kanysha,” You don’t know why ’cause there’s no REASON. Yet. But as you’re catching up, you remember her mad skills with a spreadsheet.
It feels awkward, to ask for help. Then you wake up. That’s an old story, doing every dang thing yourself. You ask in such a way that she feels honored. She cuts through your technical nightmare like butter, saving you hours of hacking and Googling.
With tools and practice, you can reboot those old programs that stop you from speaking truth. Unclog your throat chakra like a roto-rooter, so you can:
- Ask for support when you need it
- Stand up for your core beliefs
- Be heard, at home and work
- Use the magical secret to getting what you want
